I’ve read they were nicknamed Glaserati because of the Frua link. Arguably one of those ideal pair with a contemporary 911 — occasionally in that era motor sport magazine asked corespondents to name their ideal car combo this would have been nice addition along with 911 to take the bigger family. Quite slow on auatobahn but has certain elegance however these withered on vine

As I’ve mentioned here before I used to have an office in the Ferry Works in Thames Ditton Surrey U.K. in the old AC factory building also spent a lot of time at Croft Circuit when I was a kid so doubly pleasing to see this special beast sitting in the foyer when popped in to the library in clubhouse today

I missed this one as been travelling overseas. I’m normally regularly at clubhouse so usually take my own photo of feature cars when passing but have to make do with one from social media. That says it’s the RHD M471 RS the was entered in the 1973 Targa Florio — same event where Muller and van Lennep won in an M491 factory martini livery race car. Both are 911.744 model.

Any genine RHD 73 Carrera RS is rare thing but vin 446 having participated in the last proper Targa Florio when new and being one of just 5 examples that left the factory in M471 Sport RHD configuration from the original first 500 series quota is noteworthy.

Link to a site with period photo of the car entered by Hedges/Marguiles in action — albeit wornhmybcaptoned RSR — I’ve no affiliation to any of the www posts but nice to see my club display an interesting RS nearly 50 years on from that event. I had suggested the club do something in May but this is near enough

Some fairly clear footage from 1973 but didn’t see this car maybe not a surprise as seemed to like the red prototypes that didn’t win and glimpses of the M491 including one that did.

This photo is for those who remember a very thrilling end to Le Mans

    Few things as context:
    - The night before it arrived I was told the car has less than an inch clearance between the pillars on the stairs something that was of concern to the chap responsible for getting it in place up temporary ramps during the weekly display changeover that is done at the crack of dawn to avoid congestion in the centre of the busy capital
    - not long after the race I was with David Richards (founder of Prodrive and ex chairman of Aston Martin) at a motorsport industry event being held in the House of Lords as he described the nail-nailbiting finish to a colleague, an F1 Team Principal, despite having had so much success in business and the sport it was a delight to see just how excited David was reliving the final moments of that Class to a colleague.
    - coincidentally I had just been to Prodrive factory a few days before where a similar car is exhibited as part of the collection:

This was a different Le Mans race car in the rotunda the night before, a Lancia in striking livery but ready to be swapped-out after a week on display to make way for the Aston Martin racer.

While it is a building that was created bespoke for the club around 1911 the architects didn’t envisage displaying cars in the foyer so requires a temporary ramp and removing the revolving doors:

this is not my photo as I’ve never been out of bed early enough to see the change in operation although some nights probably been there nearly late enough from a good night out in the Long-Bar to witness it.

A huge number of cars many quite rare and valuable have been displayed for the club members and their guests using the typically weekly changeover process that started back in the sixties when I believe the James Bond Aston Martin was the first to be put there.

Don’t know why photos are all oriented incorrectly ?!

Sorry the photos rotated. I would’ve placed these in your original post but then I would’ve messed up your story line. So, here are the Aston Martin photos…
