No time to dawdle on way to the Longbar thirsty for a pint or two of bitter after wandering around the London Concours in the grounds of Honourable Artillery Company. The evening in the club bar had some spirited discussion of important matters: “if limited to just one marque for all your motoring needs what would that marque be? “. Chat included a former editor of classic and sportscar magazine and a gaggle of petrolheads.

No I don’t argue for it to be Porsche!

Wasn't a lot of specifics about the actual car on the plaque Rick, normally these cars on rotunda give information generally on the model and a bit about the car on display that week.

I didn’t visit the extra infomation as was on mission to get to the old bar

At my club after the London Concours. Snapped this when passing — currently wearing British registration plate but doubt that will help identify it unless it happens to be original

The suffix R suggests registered in UK August 1976-July 1977 in the Sheffield Yorkshire licensing district. However it could be in fact likely plate added later?

I was in the clubhouse this morning for a discussion about the restoration of the first ever car to break 200mph barrier with the engineering team of Beaulieu who are doing the restoration of the milestone land speed record car — the current land speed record holder Andy Green was in attendance. Andy is lovely chap who once did a launch event of a new Lotus for us. Fascinating to talk with him in front of the Seagrave Trophy named after the driver is the car that Andy was awarded decades later — who else could have the insights into feats that are beyond the imaginations most.

For folks interested on the 1000 hp land speed record Sunbeam that was made in Wolverhampton England an area at heart of England that played key part in the Industrial Revolution :

If an anyone has has ever inadvertently left tool inside a car they worked on you are not alone — the current restoration unearthed this screwdriver in the fuel tanks ( maybe dropped best part of a century ago when being used as an improvised fuel level dipstick ) and and the similarly awol adjustable spanner stuck to a corner of the chassis held by the rust from the saltwater corrosion presumably from when the sea was used to slow the car when the brakes weren’t up to the job

The car had two aero engines. In the make do and mend philosophy pair stamped 1918 were salvaged from a powerboat that once had four them but had sank. Two of those of the four engines retrieved from the bottom of a lake and fettled by determined enterprising folks at Sunbeam to be capable of being the power to break the land record.

One nice detail of an engine IMG_0381.jpg
