    7R engine #6420085, what is it...??

    A friend of mine has this engine, 7R case with ¤6420085¤, no type or build number. We can not find any info on this number anywhere, some kind of 914 derivation or a product from race department??

    An experienced engine builder here in Norway claims the engine number to be correct original stamping.

    Greatful for any info on this!!

    I suspect it's a 901.38 engine (2.0L, 81kW), this would be correct for a '72 914-6

    Thanks for your reply, yes it could be? But it is strange that it is missing the other numbers?

    914-6 engine cases were stamped back by the breather cover, not by fan housing support. Any #'s back there ?

    Which engines were based on 7R case in addition to 2.7? 2.4T CIS? When did the 7R case first appear?

    My Italian 73S 11/72 had 5R-7R. But by January I believe all were 7R-7R.

    It would be very unusual for a 1972 engine to have a full 7R case. I would want photos of all of the relevant numbers on the case.

    Typically, if it doesn't have a build number and engine type it would indicate a replacement case that someone has stamped the old number to.
