    SWB torsion tubes

Hi all, restoration of my 68 911s is now underway, the car has had some fairly crude torsion tube repairs in the past and I'm looking to get it back to standard. Can anyone tell me if '68 911 and 912 torsion tubes are the same and interchangeable? I've been told they're not compatible but can't understand why?
    Thanks in advance

    They should be identical.

The inner splines are identical and trailing arm brackets are identical and I just don't understand why anyone would say they aren't compatible.

My thoughts as well, I tried to speak with Porsche uk but they're more used to modern stuff and think we're confused with transition from swb to lwb in 69

They are the same. Sounds like another 912 going under the knife to save a 911. I think the 912's all signed on to be organ donors.

I bought a front end smashed 912 shell with no title a few years ago, ideally I'd try and rescue it but I don't know where I can get torsion tubes for a swb from, they seem pretty rare. If anyone's got anything let me know.
    Thanks

Look to the torsion bar inner rubber bushing seat width of the 1964 to 1966 - that metal pocket is a narrower width than the 1967 >on bush seats. The early cars fit a narrow 356 bush while the 1967 911, 912 and later models all take the wider.

I believe that the transition from the small to large spring plate bush took place mod way though 1967 the bush is not only narrower but is also smaller diameter.

If this part of the tuber is corroded then there are repair sections now available from Dansk bit making up a suitable section isn't difficult.

A later tube would also work if you replaced the LWB trailing arm brackets for those fitted to the SWB tube which is not too difficult.
