    FS: @eBay - complete 1971 2.2 S engine

I have it on Ebay with a buy it now of $23,000, I would sell it for less, somewhere north of $20,000 would be nice if we do a direct deal and I can therefore avoid Ebay fees etc. (As of today sept 24, 2018 two months after listing this engine, the engine now turns over, nice and smooth, took lots of soaking, turning side to side on an engine stand and waiting, but finally today, total success!! Most of this thread is speculation about whether it will turn over or not and can now be ignored)

Here is a link to the auction, there you can see 12 pictures and a description

    Seized engine

Good seller here and a nice guy for sure. A seized engine can be a nightmare. See this thread..you never know with this problem. We also had a 356 engine that had to have the Cylinders machined off with a milling machine when the method in the thread below didn't work.

http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...=seized+engine This engine/car set in a garage for many years...looked good too..from the outside.

See complete thread if you'd like. The car ended up with the director of Porsche Design in Zell Am Se !!

    Still GLWS. Thanks.

    Hi Allen

Thanks for calling me a nice guy I appreciate that. Your cautionary/nightmare tale probably wont exactly send buyers flocking my way.

Have to call them as we see 'em. You can always cancel this thread and/or, like I did, getting it rotating at least or even running. Then everyone, including you knows what you got.

Actually, I think if people read through your thread entirely they will see that you ended up saving all of the pistons and cylinders. And you said you ended up with a good running 911T engine for $500 and a lot of your time. If a person could make this Complete, low miles, 911S engine run for a similar investment they would probably be pretty happy about it. Especially if this one required much less effort to free it up which has been my experience with last three froze-up 911 engines I've encountered. My hunch is the Kroil will do it's thing eventually.

+1 Yes, it was not a bad story, in the end. Thanks.

It's hard to pin fair value on a "box of chocolates." In my domain (finance), there are bidders on assets of questionable value but the counterparty (seller) typically has to assume some of the downside or there are simply many deals that won't get done (i.e. the bid-ask is wide).

Just curious: how long is "eventually"?

Full disclosure: I made an offer on eBay but my bid was well away from the ask due to possible situations like this. But I didn't have to read this thread to know how things can work out on the downside on a frozen motor. I'm looking for a 2.2S motor but really don't care whether it's a 70 or 71.

Thanks for your honesty regarding disclosure. Downside? Again the guy that gave his example tore it down to the pistons and cylinders, reringed them built it back up was out time and about $500 and he had an excellent motor. Do that or similar to this motor even if you completely rebuild it, when your done you have an engine worth what? $50,000? $60,000? Still a great deal!

I had it on Ebay for $25,000 and I was recently offered $15,000, that is what I would call a low ball offer, it is a free country and you or if it was not you the other guy is free to offer whatever you/they want. I submitted an Ebay counter offer for $22,000 and I heard crickets. If you or the other guy thinks they can get a complete 2.2S motor for $15,000 I say that is great, go for it! How many 2.2S motors are you finding for sale? My guess is this one here and that is it.

Lastly, the Ebay price is now $23,000 and I will take less for a direct deal in which I can avoid Ebay fees.
