Thread: Welding with POR15 coating inside double wall panels?

Welding with POR15 coating inside double wall panels?

Anyone have information on possible problems or how to's on welding onto
inner fenders and closed double walled panels that have a POR15 coating on the inner
    surfaces.

I expect it to burn. Will it ignite and continue to burn or be self extinguishing.
Any recommendations to minimize burn patterns.

Will have about 24" weld run so a lot of hidden inside POR15 material affected by the weld.

    Toxic?

    Clean up and re coating?

    Thanks for any recommendations.

Amazingly tough coating. Haven't heard anything about burning. Keep my eye out.

    Maybe contact POR15?

Paint burns, even POR15. As you weld try to keep the heat down by moving around, and letting cool.. Try to keep the openings to the enclosed area blocked off, to keep oxygen from feeding the ignition and fuel. Fuel+Ignition+Oxygen=Fire. Cured POR15 needs a lot of heat and oxygen to burn, you should be fine... Good luck.

    Hi Bob,

If you are really worried about the burning you can purge the inner area with argon . This is assuming it is a closed area..

    Brad and Dan,

Good stuff. Get rid of the oxygen and reduce the problems - brilliant.
I have the Argon tank and a football airfill needle, now I'm imagining the "rube goldberg" connections to fill a cavity and keep a trickle feed while welding..

    I'll report back.

    Thanks guys.
