What size is your dip stick !

    Guys
We were having issue with our new Porsche oil level sending unit.
This is a 73.5 CIS ...Gues the 73 tank was a one year only.

It registers in only one position, never bottoms out.
After loosing all nuts and slightly removing the unit I felt it free up???
Moved it around by hand and things varied on gauge ..good right
The pushed in and tightened up.
Again only register one position ......
Removed again and could feel resistance ?? Decide to remove the dip stick and it freed up.
See photo of the new dip stick, ( and what I believe the old one ). I understand you need the 930 version to work with Porsche new sending unit which is what’s being used .
Why is it sticking and restricting the sender float ?
    Thanks
    Frank

    Here's a possibility I ran into with a friend's car last month...
The problem was an old dipstick that was lost in the tank, who knows when, that was caught up in the sender...

    It's worth'a look...

    Good luck,
    cm

Thanks Chuck....This tank was totally cleaned so that’s not the issue.
The issue relates to a 73 oil tank and new Porsche sender.
The short dip stick does not interfere , the longer one does..
Would like to hear from 73car owners with orignal tanks and new Porsche sender units.
I am going to try and ease a bend The dip stick
    Thanks

I assume your tank is 73 with oil filter console between tank and filter. Later tanks are deeper and require later stick. Good luck with repair and or mods.

    gled49...thanks for note.
Yes this is the Orignal tank ...73...the sender unit is new .
Understood that with this new version sender needed the 930 dip stick
So interested in owners with same situation
    - Orignal 73 tank
    - new Porsche sending unit
-what length is your dip stick and Is your sending unit operating properly.

    Thanks
    Frank

My point is dipstick should be matched to tank. 930 dipstick will lower oil level in shallower tank. Modify sender (bend the arm) if you can't get a 73 sender. G

I have a 73E manual (sporto oil tanks may be different) with the original oil tank. I replaced the sender a few years ago with a new one from Porsche and it not only works perfectly - the oil level on the dip stick (also original) is almost exactly the same as on the gauge BUT as an added bonus there is virtually no movement on the gauge under acceleration etc and it shows roughly the correct level while driving whereas with the old one you had to be still at idle for it to show the correct level and it was all over the place as soon as I started driving. However i cant find the part number that I bought in my records but i did buy it from Porsche here in Australia

More. Unit pictured is dated 1/73 and stamped 911 641 541 00. My parts guy says it is still available in Germany. $157 retail. 901 and 911 01 are not correct. G
