Where to paint black in horn grill area 1971?

    Hello,
    Does anyone have a photo?
I am looking where to paint black just behind the horn grills for 1971.
I had an un-restored, orig paint 1969, and I remember black behind the horn grills. Now I am finishing up a 1971.
I have been looking on the web for photos, but not finding much...just some blurry stuff...I am looking for better detail if anyone can help? Thanks.

I'm curious about this as well. My '69 was first painted body color (tangerine) followed by a feeble and not very effective attempt to cover the area with black paint. It would be nice to have some pictures with the grilles removed to see how complete (or incomplete) the black is on other cars.

All (matt) black, very lightly. The whole area, including battery tray’s outside, horn and also wheel wells.
Mine is built November 1970, Model Year 1971, RoW factory.
I try to do better pics (through the grill driving lights mounted)

Imho 1973 is NOT a good example because its the first year were wheel wells and engine area were left body color, as well as H4 mounted, black grill etc. 1972 also differed in minor details (engine, undercarriage) to 2.2litre.

I would really stick to 1971 only, maybe crossreference with 1970.
1970 and 1971 visually differ only in one detail, the position of glove box lock.
2.2l are not really comparable to 2.4litre.

Fair enough. Here are some pics from David Conklin of the 1970 S with 700 miles. https://www.flickr.com/photos/807244...7630169538658/ Pretty much everything below the belt was black.
