    SWB front fender fitment

    Hello all,

In the process of restoring our 66 911, we decided to change our front fenders to new ones.
We've been sold genuine Porsche fenders but the fitment is surprisingly bad...

Fuel door gap is also all over the place, not mentioning the welding of the hinge...

    Thanks

I fitted new (genuine) SWB front fenders and like rear quarters, fitment was very good. I also just went to check and also fuel filler lid was spot on.
So unfortunately my guess would be your latter suggestion... (IIRC, they have just started making swb front ones)

Look in the turn signal housing for a Made In Germany stamp

    Thanks for the input!

Apparently the fender fit well everywhere beside the door area where it overlaps on the bottom.

Do you know if in 65 built car there were different shape of doors/fender?

    not different

pull it down and it will fit...maybe on the door is a bit of a lead job is required in the incircled area(most likely there is already lead on it).

You're right, the fender needs to go down.
Looks like it will be more of a trimming job in the bottom than filling at the top.
Now I guess we'd better trim the fenders than the original doors.
    Thanks!

don`t think so ...but it`s up to you what to do

if the doors are the original doors to the car and the position has not been altered i would first fit the rockers(don`t use repops--porsche rockers fit very good) and after this the fender...

actually the black lid looks more 66ish than the spot welded one.

concerning the gap--if you want to go fully original style you have to alter or replace the bucket since what you have on the new fender is the wrong bucket.

Following the tightening sequence advised in the manual gives you the best chance to work with the fender to door gap.
Don't forget the terrostat on the mounting flanges.
