    '72 911S engine number

Hello all. While doing PPE came across strange engine number. Same number as CofA but looks re-stamped and with no stars before and after. Has anyone ever seen one like it?
    Thanks in advance.

Most likely a blank replacement case that somebody stamped the number off the COA into. Having the original engine in your car makes it worth considerably more especially for an S. That is not a factory stamping. The font is better than some of them that I've seen but it's still not Factory correct.

Here is another example of a re-stamped engine case in a 1970 911-S that had been marketed and represented by an early S member on this forum and PELICAN as an "original matching numbers car with no surprises and not fooled with". I am man enough to admit I failed in my due-diligence before making a very significant $$ purchase of the car. Not so much with the sellers who to date have not expressed a single bit of remorse, apology, nada, nothing. I could write pages on this debacle but have moved on, much I'm sure to the delight of the sellers and their attorney who are probably still doing the 'high five' salute with one another.

Thanks for the opinions and I totally agree with your assessments. Wanted to hear from the pros.
So now the $ question. What is a non-running, 1 signal yellow well done re-spray, rust free, engine & tranny non-matching, and searching for fuchs 911S worth?Name: 055.jpg
