    916 Engine at RennSport

I looked thru my stuff but couldn't find any info on the cam drive system for the 916. Does anyone have drawings of the cam drive on the 3.0 908 which I believe is the same as the 916. Gordon

Gordon, here is a drawing from a Paul Frere book, and some photos I took of a transmission customer's 908/02 in the early 90s...

Thanks Jon, I figured a fixed idler and idler arm. Rothsport did a 908 and idler arms, tensioners?, cam sprockets and oil pump were all 911. G

This 916 motor should have been developed and raced in the prototypes during the the 1967 season.
It should have replaced the time and resource consuming 2.2 litre flat 8 which led to nowhere in production engine terms.
The transition into the 908 motor would therefore have been a lot easier to be ready for the 1968 season.
A missed opportunity for Porsche's race department.
This one was at Marco Marinello's a while ago.
Off the hobby horse now ....

    cheers
