    2.0 Heads question

I am much more familiar with the 69-73 engines, so forgive my noobie question. Aside from the valve differences between normal and E-S heads, and the porting differences...are the combustion chambers the same for all 80mm 2.0 engines? As the valves are the same sizes on a 67 S heads as a 69 T heads...could someone theoretically port 69 T heads from the 32/32 to the 36/35 and run 67 S pistons? Apparently all the 2.0 heads from 64-69 have 72 cc combustion chambers. In 70 the heads drop to 68ccs. Seems like the domes on the early pistons are taller or is it just me...
Fire away...I have my helmet on.

Lars, our friend Tom B. has collected all the head stats, many years ago.

And I have this excellent reference. But it tells me nothing about compatibility between the various 80mm pistons and heads...thus my question?

A '67 or earlier normal piston will not work with a '67S head or a '68 or '69 normal head because the valve pockets are not big enough for the bigger valves . the pockets can be enlarged .

    Thanks Richy...
And that makes sense. As I have 67 S pistons, I don't have that problem. I was asking specifically about the compatibility of the piston dome with the combustion chamber. A few emails later and it looks as though I am looking for a used set of 69 T heads to port! Thanks all!

In 1970, with the advent of the 2.2 engine, the combustion chamber was flattened out to a mild dome as compared to the steep dome of the early 2.0. The valve angle was also decreased slightly to fit the milder slope of the combustion chamber.
All of the 2.2, 2.4 and 2.7 (all the way to 1977) heads have the same valve size, but different port sizes, as seen in the chart above. So you can take a "T" or "E" head (same port size) and port it to an "S" specs.
In the early 80's I put 2.2S pistons and cylinders in my 2.0S engine, and unbelievably never started the motor. Unfortunately I cut the heads for the 2.2 head gasket, and the engine sat until a couple of years ago, when I found out that this combination of 2.2 pistons and 2.0 heads was WAY down on compression, due to the very small dome of the 2.2 pistons. So I contacted my friend Walt at Competition Engineering, and he found me a very nice set of 2.2-2.7 heads and ported them to 2.2S specs, and they were added to my recent bottom to top rebuild.

Same valve size and combustion chamber on both models, so I'm guessing yes?

Anyone have a fair value on a set of complete 68T heads.

    Thanks
    Dave
