How do I refinish my magnesium intake manifold.?

69T intake manifolds appear to be magnesium.

I have attempted to strip them using a chemical paint and epoxy stripper.
But they just haven't cleaned up as I had hoped ....some paint residue remains. Still traces of the black paint that look like it sort of staining the magnesium.
I have been reluctant to blast with glass beads as it's magnesium.

Once I get them fully cleaned....
I was going to prime with zinc chromate primer then just rattle can paint them.

Anyone gone thru this process before??
If so. How did you get them stripped and cleaned up properly.

Black magnesium chromate, remove the studs, check for out of spec...etc. "fly cut" or mill if needed.

As far as I know your manifolds should not be painted. Assuming the castings should have a black finish: blast clean with aluminium oxide. Use someone familiar with cleaning mag castings. The surface of the castings should not be touched with your hands after cleaning as any contamination is likely to affect the chromating process. Unfortunately, old mag castings often don't have a nice even black finish after the chromating process.

EDIT: I just got my manifolds back from Gary. I am very pleased, to say the least. Very nice work.

The originals that were black were not chromate, they were black Imron epoxy. The stuff is so robust that if you try to sandblast it off you will more likely destroy the magnesium substrate.
