    Early Webasto burnt wire

I recently purchased #302250 with Webasto #00898 that has been parked since 1979. I am slowly resurrecting it.
Before replacing this burnt resistor wire (see photo) is there a known or likely cause?
    Thanks,

my guess is the black timing box does not work correctly..it does not switch off the 2nd stage of thr glow plug...open the box and carefully clean it ..my guess is this pivot is a bit tight..don`t bend anything...have fun

Here is my timer box. It appears to move smoothly without any unusual resistance. Other than cleaning the obvious corrosion, is there anything else to check or test?
    Thanks,

can`t see from you pics but if your box does not have the splint like the one incircled in my pic but a seeger circlip ring you box has been replaced at some point.and the burn happened with the old box.the box possibly has then also a 901.xxx.xxx.xx part#sticker on it

but if it is still the original box i would hook-up the hole system check the function with the box open(which i would do anyways).. its a complex process and everything has to happen in the correct sequence...and there are some hidden gimmicks(in interaction with the two micro switches and the bi-metal switch on the main unit) .but if you catch up the hole way it works you will feel like a hero
