    I could be wrong but if I remember correctly FIA will allow newly manufactured parts IF it can be shown that replacement parts are near impossible to obtain or excessively expensive (a bit subjective to say the least)

    My thoughts exactly when I read that; I thought mag's big advantage was its weight saving compared to aluminium?

    You have my admiration for tackling the engineering and machine work. Honestly, it's impressive. Fun to see.

    But there are literally thousands of aluminum case available without the weight penalty. Twelve pounds isn't unsubstantial.

    Haven't been involved with historic and vintage racing for a few years but if I were still, I wouldn't waste money on one of these.

    I am involved with vintage/historic Porsche racing. As has been said above, original engine cases are still quite available, and I cannot imagine that a repro engine case would be permitted by any vintage/historic sanctioning body. I recently built out a 911 racing engine, and I was required to use original Weber carbs, which are still plentiful, rather than PMOs, which would have been a lot cheaper, even though there is no real performance difference. I also have to wonder about demand; I see very few early 911s on the racing grids anymore.
