Looking for photos of a black 1973 911 targa interior

    Dear forum members.
I recently bought a 911T targa from 1973 in the US and brought it back to its birthplace.
Nice car, signal orange with black interior.
But...somewhen in the eighties the owner decided to redo the interior.
    Almost original - almost.

They redid the complete interior, every piece of black vinyl was replaced by a different dark grey vinyl with a not very convincing grain texture.

To make a long story short, I want to go back to a more original interior. I found some closeup images of the Recaro Ideal S sport seats that are part of the car but am still looking for some (closeup) photos of the originally used vinyl grain texture of all the rest.

Since I live in Germany my hopes are high that I might find that material but without an image of the original its really hard to tell what's right and what's not.

Therefore it would be great if you could send me some photos of your original 1973 interior!!

Thank you very much for all your help.

    Greetings from rainy Hamburg.
    Christian

    Thanks for your reply David.
I already tried to contact a Porsche specialist in Germany (Sportwagen Eckert) and he was the one who told me that he needs to see the correct vinyl to know whether he can match it.
That's why I started looking for good closeup images of the grain texture...

I have an early 1973 MFI Targa with vinyl seats in black. Its 21,000 original miles. Untouched, but not sport seats. Perhaps my grain is the same? Either way here are some photos:

    Dear Michael.
Thank you very much for the images of your Recaro seats.
They definitely help but the seats themselves are only part of the problem.
By far more complicated for me is to find images of the grain texture of the other parts of the interior like door panels etc.. Do your seats have the same vinyl structure as the rest of the interior? Or does it differ from that?
If it does, do you eventually have an image of a piece of that???

Thanks again and greetings from Germany.

The grain is the same throughout the car.Door panels, rear quarters and shelf, and rear seats. The door tops, armrests and dash are moulded but the grain is very close to the soft vinyl. This is on original 73 cars.

The high grain viny was used in 72 & 73 year cars only. My understanding is it was also used by BMW, so should be easy to source in Europe. I have purchased it from Autos International of CA. Rob

Not the same unless they have recently found a source

Okay, let me sum that up:
    a) The vinyl shown in Michaelīs photos is the correct one for a 73 911.
    b) The vinyl used on these Recaro seats is used throughout the complete interior.
    c) Itīs not available anywhere worldwide.

That leaves me with three questions:
    a) Do my sport seats also share the rest of the car material?
    b) Where can I get the closest match to the original material?
    c) Why is this all so difficult?

    Thanks to all of you.

    a) your sport seats should match if all vinyl
    b) no where
    c) because the original vinyl has been nla for a long time
