    Tire help for 69S

    I did some searches but could not find a conclusive answer. Getting ready to buy five new tires for my Jan of 1969 build 69S. The Cardex specifies "9106 Michelin" . Car still has all its original dated Nov of 68 deep six hearts Fuchs.

    Can some one tell me what tire the "9106 Michelin" is and where the best options to purchase, if any, other than Coker or Longstone ?

    The only Michelin offered in 185/70VR15 was (and still is) the XWX. Best place to get them in the US is probably Summit Racing with the free shipping. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cok-57970/overview/

    I understand you are trying to match original, but the Pirelli CN36 is probably a better tire than the XWX these days. Michelin XWX is unchanged from the late 60s, the Pirelli has been updates internally, still looks vintage though.

    I agree with Arne
    the XWX are a very hard riding tyre with stiff sidewalls
    if you want tyres for a show car to match the CoA - yes XWX
    for a driver then the CN 36s should be period correct and a better ride
    pictures pls !!

    Thank you gentleman . That is what I thought but wanted to make sure . I believe these tires need tubes as well so will purchase those as well unless I hear different.

    To say the Michelin XWX has not changed since the 1960s is not correct. The tread pattern is as per the original introduction. However, the construction and compounds, used on the current tire, reflect modern tire technology. I have XWX fitted to my 1970 911 which have covered more than 7,000 miles. In the UK where we do not have particularly good road surfaces and the ride is fine and compliant on standard suspension.

    The CN36's do not require tubes , but tubes can be used if necessary - if the the wheels have wire spokes . The Michelins have changed , absolutely . They are now basically a reproduction made in Serbia , an ok tire but I think the CN36's are better and still made by Pirelli .
