    ID Aluminum Case type # 901/06 9073, engine #911971

I have a sand cast case that I believe is a 1967. It is type # 901/06 9073, engine #911971. I am not sure what type of 911 it would have started in originally? Is there a way to identify the original build type (S, T, L)?

I can't ID from original pistons/heads, etc. as all I have original is the case. At some point it had been built into a 2.4 displacement.

Thanks Jim. Is there something that quickly identifies that? Just curious for my own education. Thanks again!

Yes, the engine number and the "designation Internal" number along with my ability to read my well worn Spec book

Jim, if you look in the back of Stoddard catalog and also in the back of Dr. Johnson’s guide to originality it has a 901/6 as a S engine but that is a misprint. This fooled me as I bought a 67 911 and I should have looked at my factoryspec books but the printing is so small and the 2 books are so much easier to read. It is a normal engine.

This is exactly why I am reluctant to use any o resource other than the original Spec Books. All the info printed or posted on the interweb is pirated from these little books. Yes, Brett Johnson and others have gone deeper than the factor documenting info but the spec books should be in everybody's research material and be used before anything else, IMHO.

    Regards

    Jim

    Well worn?

Try reading one with torn pages, blood, oil, beer, and chocolate on it. Yours is pristine.

Be mindful of the "offset" lines of printing between some pages. That'll mess you up too.
