    Fuel Line After Plating

    Picked this up after a long hunt for a good example. These are NLA so finding one that hadn't been bent or twisted proved difficult. This one had been painted silver to mimic cad plating and hide other imperfections.
    It was shipped to International Chromium in Providence RI. A buddy of mine who is a BMW restorer asked me to use them to prove a point (to me).

    This had to be stripped of all previous plating before going forward. The end result speaks volumes.

    Looks great!! Would that be whats called a "hard" chrome finish?

    Cadmium. Toxic as heck and best left to professionals.

    Hard chrome, as I know it, is utilized for undersize bearing journals or shafts which are then machined to tolerance.

    When did they switch from silver to gold, this from 68, just redid what was there. G

    I had this laying around, got it with a set of Webers years back. Is it of value to anyone? It does appear to have been cut at one end. I have no use for it.

    FWIW: My March '67 car has a silver line. The guys I originally got the newly plated one from had several and they were silver as well.

    It would be good to sacrifice a newly plated one and section it completely to see what sort of surface you end up with internally.
    Corrosion inside fuel lines can be an issue, hence copper lined.
