Problem is satin black has different shades depending on the manufacture. Where it really shows is around the instruments. If you can get your man to spray a couple samples pieces, maybe you can find a early 911 nearby and you can go compare and pick out what looks best. The good part is most early cars have original paint around the dash, and that is a area that does not get sun so it is not faded.

How many parts in a '69 steering rack?
I realised quite late on that the bearings are in a seprate sleeve inside the main carter
    Bearings are type 16002.
The grease inside is *very much* like CV joint grease. Have it up to my hair.
About cleaned. I am debating having the main casing bead blasted before reassembly.

You can blast the housing with walnut shells. It would not etch the housing . Just be sure to wash it out good afterwards. It will look new.

    Hi Rick,
Will go to the finish shop and ask them for soft blasting. Thanks.

    Funny how interests merge.
Bought that anvil in a small closed workshop in a side valley. Must be over 100 years old. I have a dilemma, I would like to have it machined smooth on top, but it is only original once…

    Back from blasting.
New bearings, grease, all parts cleaned, ready for reassembly.
