Any experinces there with rebore alusil cylinders and replate them?

    Have anyone done it ?
I try to search writings about it from forum source but none found

my idea is to use 90mm KS alusil cylinder, to overbore to 92mm and sent to replating them with nicasil (or similar)

Any experiences and comments based on that there, good, bad not dooable at all?

also how thick (to undersize the bore) spray have been done, ,25 or ,50mm or less

Would like to hear if experiences exsist as replating cost and if thy come as crap out not funny for wallet

    thanks in advance

It is a standard practice on the 95 mm cylinders to overbore and re-plate in Nikasil to 98 mm. The 2.7 should be no different.

I have used Millenium Technologies for this.

    Thanks for the reply

just to understand right so you do also that for kolbenschidd alusil cyls?

Mahles I know they work nice for replating but they are diffrent combination of metal the liner part

sorry to replicate my question, but better to ask than thought

Yes. Common practice is to take 95 mm KS Alusil cylinders and bore and re-plate them to 98 mm Nikasil.

I worked with a local local high performance engine building machine shop a number of years ago and what we came up with, was doing, was acid etching the surface of the alusil cyl, this allowed the silcone bits to float to the surface. We tried this because he used to do a lot of work on the old Vega engines that were almost identical to Porsche cylinders. They were an aluminum blocks where the pistons ran without liners. Did quite a few engines like that and don't remember any of them coming back ( those things , you don't forget ) He is still doing that today and has done a lot of cyl this way without any issues with ring seating / oil consumption

    Don't know if this helps

    Thanks, Rick
