    Question 1969 911s

    Hello everyone,
    This is my first post here and as a newcomer in the classic Porsche world, I am looking for your advice.

    My dad and I are both fan of classic cars and we recently got the opportunity to put a hand on what is supposed to be a 1969 911S. The car is sitting in a barn, we don't know for how long it did not run but it is in excellent condition (no rust and paint is almost perfect, it just need a good wash). However, some elements look odd. Here are the only few pictures I have for the moment;

    On this picture a few things are catching my attention, here is my list:

    - The 911S and Porsche are in two different colors at the back
    - The grille is black where it is supposed to be chrome and same for the two little at the front
    - The bumperettes should have rubber strips down them
    - The distributor might not be the good one

    Given we might have a chance to buy this car, what is your opinion?

    I will try and go see the car once again as soon as possible but this time I would like to go there with a full list of points that need to be checked, what would be your checklist? I know that I have to check all the numbers (still not sure where to find them...) and papers.

    That's pretty much all I know about it for the moment, I will let you know when I have some news.

    Thank you for your time,

    Louis

    I'm certainly no expert, but the front bumper and the engine lid look wrong. USA versions have mfi, don't know about rest of the world cars. My 69S has both gold and silver on the engine lid as well. It would be worth your time to read this thread.

    Just because the carburetors have been sprayed with gold paint does not mean they have been restored , probably the opposite , not restored just a terrible paint job . I count ten things missing or wrong in the engine bay just from the pictures , it may be a nice car but certainly not an "original survivor ".

    Why does it have a SWB decklid?

    It's a pity they didn't disassemble those aftermarket carbs before pointing the rattle can at them. That will be a PITA to clean off all the little fasteners.

    I hope it's cheap.

    Windshield looks to be replaced as the original glue on base for the mirror should be square on the glass. This one is round. Look to see if the car has a front right fender oil cooler as 1969 was the first year on the 911S that had a front oil cooler with oil lines inside the rocker panel until it comes out right before the cooler. It also has a 1967 and before engine lid.Good luck Chris

    A question: I haven't seen 911S-B on a VIN plate before... maybe because my car is a 'normale' 2.0!!! Anybody care to chime in?
    1966 911 Coupe - Slate Grey - 304598 - still in restoration!

    It may be specific to the French cars, like the RS 2.7 that have 911 SC-F at the same place.
    Anyway, only the VIN will thell us what this cat is supposed to be.
    Correct me if I'm wrong, but a 1969 911 S should be:
    11930XXXX .

    And a 1969 911 S has MFI, not carburators.

    Where is the car located?

    B = B series model.

    All 69S cars had MFI (early "001", late "005").

    Would you mind pointing out what you think is wrong so that I can check it the next time I see it?
