Rear red hella fog light help

    Hello,
I think I would like to install a rear hella fog on a 1971. for California.

But there are two to choose from,
I would prefer the more period correct.

    Does anyone know:
    1. Were these on all European cars, or german cars?
    2. Were these an option? Or forced?
    3. I think the chrome would have been on the cars till about 73, with black body later.
    4. Is the smooth lens, or the ‘notched’ the only correct option for 1971?
    5. If I find which is more correct, I would be interested to post a wanted add for one.

Yes an option. Chrome case and the “smooth” lens. However there are at least three versions of that early lense. The picture you posted is actually more suited to a SWB.

I installed one as a third brake light and to fill a gap created by use of an aftermarket exhaust system. Didn't particularly care if it was an SWB or LWB design.
