Under Body, Floor & Engine Bay Colors

    Hi All,

I would appreciate some help with under body, floor and engine bay colors.

When did these areas go from being painted black to being the same as the external color?

    Thanks!!!!

    What year is your car?

I know 1969 had black frunk and trunk.
I also know that 1972 had body color frunk and trunk.

I am not sure about 1970 or 1971.

I am also not sure about the body color exterior floors....

Well, not quite. My MY70, build date somewhere 10-12/69 is body color frunk & exterior floor (except some areas) and engine bay black. As is the 1970 700-mile "S" mentioned in some thread here years ago and photographed by Dave:

When you say body color, I presume you are referring to exterior panel color?

    Thanks

Three consecutive posts (3, 4, and 5) using the term "frunk." It must stand as some sort of record.

My early '72 (8/71) was body color in the "front trunk", black engine compartment and also inner fender wells. In the case of the fender wells, it is obvious that the black was painted over the exterior body color, as it has faded away to the original silver in many places.
