That factory original ST unfortunately was a victim of turn 10 at Sears Point back in the early 1980's. It was rolled. It was originally a narrow body ST one of the first ones that went back to Werks and was upgraded further with the flares and 2.5L engine while it was still in Germany. He brought it to the US in 1977. He got a lot of first place victories in that car and was leading the race at Sears but missed the apex and then it all went bad. It was parted out. We of course would have fixed it today but back then the engine was worth more than the car after the damage. Been searching for it ever since though!

So how did your Uncle come across the car in Germany? --- especially such an off-the-wall variant? . . .

. . . and where did he find it?

And why did your uncle pick such a car? Lots of other choices in 1977 --- even from Porsche (Turbo) . . . and an ST would've been passé by then, would it not?

I had a long discussion with your uncle last year on the Rennsport. He will remember me, best wishes to him.......
We found out that he perhaps knew my dad and as well Freisinger Sr. quite well. He told me about his car and we were curious if my ST was his now. We fount out it couldn't be the same car.

Yes, hey Manfred I remember meeting you there also. Dave's a bit under the weather right now. Lost his voice but we'll update the thread soon. It's a really cool story how he found the car and who he bought it from while stationed in Germany.

Even if the car was crushed, do you think that it would be possible to find its VIN?
Of course, if your Uncle has others pictures and stories to share, this is even better.

Hopefully the VIN is gone, retired, and never to resurface. It would be a shame for it to be stamped into a "tribute" "copy" or outright fake. This tom foolery has seriously hurt the Carrera RS market leading me to believe that there are 3,000 Carrera RS's left of the 1500 that Porsche built.

I am looking forward to the story of this ST.

But, according to the address of this very site, it is always interesting to register such a car.
I don't think that we have somewhere a definitive list of all ST's produced, do we?

All the paperwork for the car including the letter from Jurgen Barth which stated which ST it was is all gone. Mice living on my Uncle's boat in the Sacramento river ate it up many years ago. VIN is gone.
