I'm here with Uncle Dave so we can add to the story of this original 70ST. It was manufactured in 69 but was a 70 model year. The car was delivered to Glockler Porsche in Frankfurt, Germany. It was a light weight narrow body car with thin metal and glass. When the car was purchased off the lot it was sent back to Werks II for the 2.5L ST engine and flares. It had a Webasto heater in the smugglers box and none of the original heater pipes in the rockers were there. Aluminum engine lid, engine kill switch next to the ignition, metal gas tank filled under the hood, factory hood prop, clock delete, felt dash piece and felt headliner. It was used for hill climb events and rally racing. The guy then bought a RSR and put the ST on the road as a street car. That's when the Gary Player type paint job and other mods were added to the car around 1974. My Uncle was stationed in Germany and a member of the PCA Germany club back when there was a Germany region PCA club in 1976. He saw the car for sale on the street at a clothing/tailor shop in Mannheim, Germany. He bought the car and used it for transportation and club events at Nürburgring and Hockenheim and then brought the car back to the US in 1977. First in Texas and then back to California and raced in PCA club events and SCCA. The car was so light and fast that he blew away the competition. No one really even knew what it was back then. In 1979 in suffered and roll over at Sears Point turn 10. We miss it! -Scott

72S, 72T now ST
Fantastic Update ... would someone here, I mean there's some really talented people on this forum, please create a time machine so we can go back to Sears point at that day and time and disable the ignition so your Uncle couldn't start the race. Perhaps the car would still be with us.
it is not complete Clyde.....but I am still gradually adding to it (added another 1970 one a week or so ago)....and unfortunately I don't see a possibility of adding this one to it given the lack of information. But from the descriptions given I suspect it was originally a German market S lightweight ( ie the base S used in 1970 for Homologating the competition cars) which were also called an S without option M470 (which added back all the trim found in an E.
then by the sound of it it was taken back to the factory to get an engine etc upgrade probably to group 4 spec. A pity that it has been lost as there were not many of those produced. Interested to know if it had the 2.3 (1970 and 1971) or 2.5 engine (1972) - that would depend on when it went back to the factory to be upgraded
