FS: factory headers and megaphones NOS

Or so I was told. These parts came with a package deal. Bought in the 70s, never been used. Can make more pics or take measurements.A08753DC-352E-4476-BFCC-5FD245FCEEE6.jpgEF7727D9-E1CE-4178-90E2-F06E965F6B89.jpg19450B26-9B54-4773-9376-B85D60DCF10F.jpgC9FE1DB8-BEB3-428E-8A6C-942B996C21C9.jpg
    Make a fair offer. 356type@gmail.com

So looks like not factory. I’ll put a price of $600 for the set.

Several parties ask about ID. 47.2 mm, I did not measure on several points across the pipe, probably they are 48mm. That is the exit to the megaphone.
I was told they were for a 3.0 RSR. If someone knows, i’ll Appreciate any info.
    Thanks

Here is a set of factory “3.0 RSR” headers purchased new 40 yrs ago. I painted them 20 yrs ago gray exhaust paint VHT SP-104 over the Nickel plating. Trying to remove paint now, so far with plastic media, pretty tough paint. Inlets measure 42.3, outlets measure 47.3. U decide if shape and collector are the same. To me the lack of Nickel plating says not factory. G

I measured them again. Inlet 42.2, outlet 47.3. Finish doesn’t look like paint, more like faded black oxide

Lots of folks made headers for racing application, the more I look at yours, I’m convinced they aren’t factory. The pipes coming into the collector, have a very wide splayed pipes, compared to the tightly grouped pipes of the factory set. A lot of the aftermarket headers would make more power or power in different RPM ranges than factory ones. One more measurement. GLWS.

I can guarantee these are not OEM Porsche factory exhaust racing parts, we can clearly see the step on all the flanges is missing. A prominent period factory feature used by Porsche which I was told ‘improves’ the sealing mating surfaces of the exhaust system.

See pix below, from all the OEM exhaust systems I’ve had over the years.

BTW, the tubing material used to create the Porsche factory RSR headers is ‘beryllium’, banned from racing for years. Google it, look it up.

Very, very lightweight, if you ever have the chance to hold a set of factory R, ST, RSR headers in one hand, you will be amazed.

This system was chromed, not by me. Sold and don’t know how the owner refinished it to restore.

Here is the flange end of the RSR header, stepped.

And the flange end of the megaphone, also stepped.

Two other pairs of 914-6 GT OEM Exhausts, all with steps

And how far back can we document when Porsche first started the step in the exhaust flanges? I believe 1965.

And a closer look of the flanges of my 906 exhaust, and not great photos...

Thanks much. Interesting discussion on header/tail pipe variations.
