Thread: Restoration of 1972 2.4 S Targa c/n 9112310827

The car is now stripped and there is fortunately a vast amount of original Jade Green in places inaccessible to the 1990's blue repaint with enough substance to produce a good match. This makes me *very* happy, since I want to get this rare color right. There is no evidence of any Tangerine, so the PO must have been mistaken about that color history. Very interested to watch your progress. I have a car that I want to take back to its original color as well. For now I will live vicariously as you go through the process. Good luck

Great build, and excellent mindset! I'll be watching this through having gone from this 72 S Targa

Full build (5 years!) on the pelican board (Florio). Loved every minute (almost) now that it's done! Lots of great help on this board.

    Good luck,

Thank you for the posts, and that's a beautiful restoration Florio!

Fortunately things are moving again with the Targa's restoration as the pandemic pause is relaxing some.

I have identified the build number stamped in the dash, which seems to make sense per my research on this board with the car's configuration and serial number.

We are working on the color, and want to match original Jade/Light Green (Hellgrun)in an appropriate, period-correct single-stage application. The PPS form publishes the paint code as 68, but a period Glasurit sample book as the code for Hellgrun as POR 227. Of course, we can tint the color to match the copious samples we have found on the car, but I would like to start as correct and close as possible. What are your recommendations on sourcing the best/correct starting point for Jade/Light Green (Hellgrun)?

Both are correct. From 1972 Paint code book for exterior colors ... Color #227 = Designation 6868/6810
