Questions about gauges restoration and speedometer reset knob

    Hi all,
Here are the 5 gauges of 300090.
They are all dated October 1964 except the speedometer which is dated November 1964.

    Speedometer: November 1964:

I do not know if it was done at the factory but the reference written by hand on the speedometer is the correct one:

    Restore the gauges?
in France we have a very good specialist who restores, repairs and adjusts the VDO instruments.
I think entrust the five gauges to him.
In order to clean, check and repair the interior, the specialist must of course remove the existing trim rings and replace them with new ones.
Do you think this could harm the authenticity?

We have another question about the speedometer reset knob.
During the 1964 production the reset knob was in Bakelite:

As the pictures show, the speedometer of 300090 which is from 1964 has the knob from 1965.
    • Does anyone know when exactly Porsche changed the knob?
    • The knob may have been replaced by a previous owner?

Anyway, if anyone has this Bakelite reset knob for sale please contact me.

    Thanks,
    Philippe

the knobs are prone to break...

a few years ago at the techno classica i bought a `65 dated speedometer(dont know which month it was dated) with the the reset cable still attached ... it had the plastic knob.
by coincidence i meet henk baars just a few minutes later.he who owned #250( and exhibited at the show) at this time... with the wrong knob installed..i saw it as a sign... so i donated it to him...maybe he still has it.
there are also reproductions out there...

You did the right thing moito.
It's time for me to create a thread in the Wanted Parts forum
Do you know how to differentiate between an original knob and a reproduction?

    Original gearbox of 300090

    Hi all,
As you know we are lucky to have the original 300090 gearbox.
While scanning the photos, I found a date on the gearbox.

I guess 30 is the number of the week of the year.
This would mean that the gearbox was manufactured between July 20 and 26, 1964.
Just a month before the start of the production.

    More pictures...

Philippe, 30/64 is the date of the housing being cast.
Also, the axle flanges of your transmission have been updated for Löbro CV joints.

    Front trunk VIN scan

    Hi all,
As indicated in our first post, Kobus Cantraine inspected the car.
Here are some pictures of the front trunk number scan.

Yes: we have to replace (among other things) the latch support panel and the shock towers!
