    Hello,
The hole is welded to the inner "Mount for shock absorber strut in the wheel housing front" (PCG50191000)

Still doesn't explain the purpose of the hole?

My guess is for welding to tie the two pieces together in that area to increase strength. Like a rosette weld when adding reinforcement panels to an area for stiffening.

    1964 Front latch panel

    Hello,
Could anyone tell us what, if any, changes we need to make to the RD's front latch panel to make it as close as possible correct for the 1964 model?
    Thank you,
    Philippe

    Front latch panel from 1964

    Phillippe,

here are Dave DiMaria's photos showing the rib sections on the 1964 cars. There are two different versions to this area both are 1964 cars.

The four top ribs are visible on the horizontal ledge as stamped by RD. The differences are the rubber seal holding metal flange that has either no indents or four ribs indents.
Note where the spot weld were used on the compared photos. Spot welds in place on the non-rib example and no spot welds where the two center ribs are placed on the other.
It is guessed the flange without indents is earlier in production.

There has been conversation as the rubber seal holding piece having deeper indents for water drain areas on the 1965> cars.

Refer to Dr Johnsons new book (911 Restoration Guide to Authenticity) page 20 for 1965 and 1967 comparison photos for the discussion of this area.

    Hope this helps.

    Front latch panel from 1964

    Thank you Bob!
We should now be able to make this panel "authentic".
As for the Doctor's Book: I hope to receive the copy I ordered soon.

    I just saw this.

I doubt the explanation. I think the hole simply should not have been there (for 64), that is for later cars? (70? And up). I don’t have a car to look at nearby to verify. How does it look on the opposite side or is that removed / not original as well?
