    What’s the pinnacle of early 911’s?

    What’s your favorite if you could choose one longhood? (Maybe not the specific serial number but the model.)

    901?
    67S rally?
    911R?
    911 GTS?
    911 TR?
    911 ST ?
    73 RS or RSR?

    I think I like the 67S rally kit as they started supporting racing and it’s a SWB. I also prefer a street legal car.

    Difficult to decide between an R and a TR... (based on the fact I've never seen an R but I followed a TR for many kms on its way to Classic LeMans several years ago .. oh what a sound it made!

    I like to see the racers, and special make-up cars.
    but, they are for other purposes... for me, I like a touring car, with thick colorful carpet and rear wipers.
    and a quieter and smoother ride.
    so I would just chose a 1970 2.2 T or an E coupe.
    and second favorite would be a 1964 or 65 with wood dash and wheel, etc.

    Best-sounding early 911 I've ever driven was Childs' T/R, though the 911R for Issue 000 wasn't short of a symphony.

    But...the pinnacle? You've named the obvious candidates, and the ones I'd have to work through are:

    1967 911S
    1967/1968 911R
    1970/1971 911S
    1973 RS
    1973 RSR
    1974 2.1 turbo (does that count, as it IS a longhood?)

    All of the above are fantastic for different reasons, but there's always a case to be made for a nice-driving 911T or 911E…

    I completely agree with Pete... I drove this car for 4 days back '03 when mine was being rebuilt...

    Hard to discribe... but as it went up in RPM there was 4 or 5 distintive exhaust and intake octives that it (and you) went through... ...... it took your breath away... Thank you SO much Stephen ...

    I've driven completly stock RS's, and they are amazing in there weight and balance...


    If I had to make a choice I'd really like to try a 2.5 S/T.......
