Looks pretty-much like any other early 911, so most people have zero idea what they're looking at . . .

My honorable mentions would be the Faktory's hot rods --- the cars that anyone could 've ordered --- if they wanted to . . . or knew how . . .

Hi mark
On my numbers there were at least 64 factory built ST's made, as well as a lot more that were built privately using factory kits
I think that factory built ones (both rally and track) were
1970MY at least 23 of which 7 were used by the factory team in competition
1971MY at least 15 of which 7 were factory use rally cars
1972MY 4 factory owned / used rally or Versuch cars plus 21 "customer" 2.5 M491 cars
Plus one 1969 MY car rebuilt from a wreck by the factory as a 1970ST for a competition client

I have all 3 of these and I agree the 2.7 while incredibly potent feels so modern. When I’m on back roads though in the RS and pushing it I just can’t imagine another car that would walk away from it. - though undoubtedly new super cars could. It’s just a testament to how far ahead that car was and how precise.
I prefer my 67s to my 70s when in motion but my
67s is particularly strong with a sport kit.
Well of course they are street usable. And if that is the criteria, the hell with an early 911 I'll take a street modified 67 910. But then again I don't want to look like I got lost on my way to the track.

I seem to remember reading a book that many of the factory drivers at the time liked the 2.3ST 66mm stroke engine.
Special 85mm pistons (higher compression) in stock Biral cylinders bored from 84mm to 85mm
2,247cc
power: 230 PS @ 8000 rpm
valve diameter intake/exhaust: 45mm/39mm
valve lift intake/exhaust: 12.1mm/10.5mm
Type 911/20 = injected; 911/22 = Webers
For the street, 2.2E with S pistons gets my vote.
Hugh,
You are a data base of knowledge.
Since they are so "common" I will run with (just 1) of the 7 Competition factory team ST's.
Nice Thread
Mark
