    Repro S Steel front spoiler

    Hi Guys,
Original S style front spoiler on a 1973E needs lots of work - rust.

Can anyone share their experience with replacement STEEL items currently on the market.

Interested primarily in how well does it "fit", followed by price and supplier.

    Thanks,
    Gary

The one I bought late last year was a little rough on the front surface -- some welding distortion, but nothing serious. the problem was with the outer lower curve, where the stamping did not fully shape the bumper, and left a "bulge" in the inner flange of the lower edge directly below where the tabs are for the bolts to the "C" brackets. In truth, the distortion wasn't difficult to fix, but unfortunately, I spotted it after painting, so had to go about straightening it VERY carefully. A soft pine block + floor jack were part of the solution. The circled areas show where the flange was bowed downward and needed to be pushed up flush with the rest of the lower bumper edge. Not a big deal - if you do it before painting.

Thanks Bill. And the fit was okay? - how well the bumper curves matched with the surrounding panels? Sounds good so far! Thanks for your input.

Yes, other than what I mentioned, the fit was close. Maybe pulled the ends together 5mm total to narrow overall width to match the fenders.
