Pretty much all of the companies that retrofit old radio's use the aurora guts.

I like this solution, I’ve got it in 2 911’s, sound quality is great, easy to use....let’s me keep and use the factory radio if I want, or a blank/radio delete plate if that’s preferred.

The guts fit easily behind the wooden passenger foot board and the controls stow away in the ashtray, completely invisible when desired

Well, I committed to a head unit for my project, I moved away from the idea of a retro looking head unit or even a modded original stock radio.
While I seriously crave the look of a retro or original unit in the factory space, I had a couple of concerns that nagged me...
    1. Dependability of aurora / oem radio retrofit mods, also the retrosound and custom audio units... Reports say 2 or so years.
    2. Sound Quality of the a above
    3. Cost, for the features (hands free, BT, wattage etc) is around $350 for retro units, and as much as $800 for the modded oem units.

Just ordered the KMM-BT728HD. It was $130 at bestbuy after rewards points it cost $45 out of pocket. It has all of the features above and and is controllable via a Kenwood app wirelessly from my android. It also has an integrated 13 band eq and other solid sq features.

I have a set of Blaupunkt mix separates with x-overs I'll be mounting in the kick panels.
Currently I'm looking at the cdt 6x9 subs (ordering later this week) the epicenter and an amp dsp combo. I haven't come to a conclusion on the dash speakers as of right now.

At this point I'll mount the head unit in the glove box, and use a radio block off and fix the trim vinyl.... so radio delete, which is cool, but I'll have to admit it would be cool to have a gutted frankfurt with modern electronics.. I just can't bring myself to commit to that when I can spend $$$ on good sound quality instead.

I had had great luck with this unit. Either mount an original deck in the dash or a block off plate and hide this to use bluetooth!https://www.amazon.com/Rockville-CAR...s%2C355&sr=8-1
