I've promised my wife we'd visit her family in Slovakia next fall. I'd be interested in making this part of the trip (assuming loudmouth Yanks are welcome).

So I did some research regarding School Holidays - you do not want to be stuck in season trafic.
School Summer holidays in Germany & Switzerland & France end in August. In Austria latest is 13th Sept in Italy 15th September.
Goodwood ends 13th. Sept. So I would put 18th. to 20th Sept. as a possible date. Depending where it takes place it might take up to 2 days to get there (on small roads) from where I live or 3-4 days from France Belgium Netherlands.
I've been to the Austrian/Italian alps a couple of years ago, but I am far from knowing them. So there I would not be of much help in regards to planning a roundtrip.

    Let's hear some more opinions

Ciao Massimo and all others that might be interested
I was playing with some austria / italy maps.
I came to the conclusion that 250 km is way too less and 3 days are not enough.
I like the idea of staying 2 days in the same hotel so not packing unpacking every day (saves some desperately needed 30 minutes of sleep).

With the idea of book your own bed only cities/regions with a couple of hotels would qualify for the stays.
So I came up with these 4 tours - these will be too hard I guess when you're not two drivers per car.
What's your opinion? make it 5 days? have shorter tours? or drink less and sleep more?

    Day 1: 321km 17.150 meters elevation Dornbirn-Dornbirn

    Day 2: 388km 26.125 meters elevation Dornbirn-Merano/Scena

    Day 3: 311km 21.600 meters elevation Merano/Scena-Merano/Scena

    Day 4: 393km 29.600 meters elevation Merano/Scena-Dornbirn

I think three days maximum will be better for people who also have to get there somehow ... nevertheless, as usual, people could join and leave at will. 250 km is way too little ... on these roads I'd say 350 can be an acceptable mileage, balanced between AM and PM.

Piestany. If we make the trip, I'd be interested in hitting Prague too. My wife is there now and I haven't been in 20 years.

So, this is the road I think we can follow ... unless you wish to go straight to Piešťany, in that case after Lienz we can drive to Vienna and Bratislava.
