'. . . This 1973 Porsche 911S is a US-spec coupe that was delivered from the factory finished in Royal Purple (Lilac) over beige/tan leatherette and equipped with air conditioning, tinted glass, and a limited-slip differential. Just 1,430 911S coupes were manufactured for 1973, and this example was built near the end of longhood 911 production in June of that year. The car was reportedly purchased by the seller’s uncle in 1976 and has been off the road since 1996. It was acquired by the seller a few years ago as a restoration project and retains the numbers-matching 2.4L MFI flat-six, which is mated to a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. This 911S is now offered in non-running condition with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, factory spare and jack, and a clean California title in the sellerÂ’s name.

Delivered from the factory in Royal Purple (Lilac)/69, the car retains factory bumperettes and chrome rocker trim, though European-style headlight rings have been added. A number of paint meter readings are included in the gallery, showing between 2.6 and 4.6 mil. The car was optioned with tinted glass all around, and closeups of Sekurit markings are also attached in the gallery. The steel front bumper, front fenders, and rear license plate panel show notable rust, as do other areas of the body.

Forged 15″ Fuchs wheels are mounted with 195/65 Goodyear Eagle Sport tires showing 2015 date codes. Koni shocks were fitted from the factory, and the four-wheel disc brake system features aluminum calipers and vented rotors up front. The seller notes that the brakes will need to be gone through before the car is drivable.

The cabin features beige/tan leatherette upholstery on the seats and door panels, with matching carpeting and contrasting black trim. The car was optioned new with air conditioning and a Becker ‘Mexico’ radio.

A factory four-spoke steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation, which includes a centrally-mounted 8k-rpm tachometer and a 150-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows just under 72k miles.

The 2.4-liter flat-six was rated for 190 horsepower at 6,500 rpm when new and is mated to a five-speed manual transaxle equipped with a limited-split differential. Carrera-style chain tensioners have been fitted and the Bosch mechanical fuel injection system is retained, though the air conditioning compressor has been removed. The engine is reported to turn freely, but the seller recommends that the fuel and electrical systems be gone through before attempting to run it.

Stamping *6332013* is shown above and matches the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, confirming the engine as original

Not sure that US spec 73S had the trombone. My Italian 73S does from the factory; not special order.

The 1973 U.S Technical Data Sheet (page 3) seems to indicate only an oil cooler equipped 911S.

US 1973 911S the front cooler was an option while the 1972 911S the cooler was a given(meaning they all had it) and it was radiator style. I never understood why two cars with the same engine(2.4 liter / 190hp) one year 72 needed a cooler(radiator style) and the next year 73 it becomes an option(trombone style). Porsche with all their engineering would do this, it's always been a head scratcher to me. Also going from radiator cooler to trombone cooler, again with all of Porsche's engineering.
