Plastic handle on wiper switch 1967

I would like to replace the black plastic handle at the end of the chrome stalk on my wiper switch 1967 (it was cracked when I got the car, but the switch works fine). Before I do something untoward, how does this handle come off, and how should the new one be put on? Just twist it off?!? Thanks.

The easiest way to remove it is with a heat gun. Heat it up but don't let the plastic bubble unless you just don't care. Gently pull and twist till it starts to move. Replacing it is much easier.

Thank you Jim Breazeale. You come through with help once again. I'll get out the good old heat gun tomorrow. Thankfully, we are right now getting some more much-needed rain here in Carmel Valley.
