question for 356 drivers manual -

    Dear all,

I had some nice meetings and as a result I got offered some 356 owners manuals to take with me, which I did.
    The manuals are as following:

    - Typ 356, split screen, Pre A, believed to be 1950, covering 1.1L & 1.3. L engines, german edition,
    - Typ 356, Pre A, October 1952, covering 1.1L & 1.3. L & 1500 & 1500 super engines, german edition,
    - Typ 356 A, September 1957 reprint march 1964, english edition

    All manuals are complete.
    How are these valued?
    and
How to determine the print date of the "split screen" manual, as there is no print date on it?

    356A T2 Driver's Manual

The last one is pretty easy. The 1964 reprint of the 356A T2 Driver's Manual is fairly common. I have one with my 356A.

    • Stoddard has a reprint--WKD-460-020--for $94.35 Stoddard doesn't list the date but it might still be a '64 reprint.
    • The 356 Registry has an ad porsche356registry.org for an NOS 356A owners manual factory reprint dated March 1964 from the Vasek Polak Collection - $229
    • The 356 Registry has another ad porsche356registry.org for a September 1957 printing (not really great shape) asking $200. Note that the ring binding on the '57 printing is black.

I would guess your 1964 reprint of the 356A T2 Driver's Manual might fetch $125 maybe up to $150. Of course, if Stoddad is selling the same thing in new condition for $94.35...

    356 Split Windshield Driver's Manual

Lordy! I think when serious buyers ask your price your response should be "How much have you got?"

There is an ad porsche356registry.org asking $1750 for a 356A T1 Driver's Manual because it includes a red paper binder made of the same material as your cover.

To determine its true age you'll need to find a real expert. Maybe you can contact Prescott Kelly. Join the 356 Registry and ask some experts who write for the magazine. This single manual might rate an article.

I am not qualified to give you a real price for something this rare (assuming it's genuinely from the first year in Stuttgart) and specialized but my Wild Ass Guess is $10,000 or more.

Heck, at the Lit Meet I saw a really nice German language Driver's Manual for a 911 (1964 printing) asking $1000. A less nice one was $800 (I once payed $25).

    October 1952 Shop Manual

I'd expect this to be worth a lot less than the driver's manual. The value of the 356 Split Windshield Driver's Manual flows in a large part from the fact that a collector with a split-windshield 356 needs a Driver's Manual to complete his car. A Shop Manual's a nice-to-have (unless a buyer is a shop manual collector).

Original 356A shop manuals seem to be $500-$600 give-or-take (you can buy a new reprint from Porsche for $638.50).

My guess is this could find a buyer fairly quickly in the $800 to $1000 range but, again, I'm not an early pre-A expert.
