    A special 911

    Seen today on the way in Stuttgart to the State Opera (Le nozze di Figaro) on the Schlossplatz:

    "The 911 is the only car you can drive from an African safari to Le Mans, then to the theater, and then to the streets of New York." This is how Ferry Porsche described the masterpiece from Zuffenhausen with the legendary curves. The 911 stands for the sports car par excellence. Porsche developed it in Zuffenhausen, the team around his eldest son Ferdinand Alexander designed the icon. The original 911 was brave without frills, the prototype was called "901" in 1963. When a French manufacturer threatened copyright - he had protected the zero as a second digit for his cars - Ferry stayed cool. He just exchanged them for one. The 911 was born in 1964 and is still the "heart of the brand". This brought advertising strategists to the timeless formula: "Nobody needs it. Everyone wants it."
