    taillight housing cover gasket?

    is there a gasket for the taillight housing cover? I took off (what looked like) some "home-made goo/kit seal", but can't seem to find the proper "as-it-was" gasket (if there was/is any)... thnx for infos! Tom

    No gasket. Originally they used a non Harding putty sometimes called dumb dumb. The ribeon putty used between front fenders and body appears similar. Your autobody supply house probably can help. Do not use caulk. Rob

    Later cars (and later replacement light housings) did have gaskets, though. My left light was replaced many years ago after an accident, and I noted that it did use a gasket that was glued to the housing. The right side still had the putty, although it was pretty dry and crumbling after decades of the car sitting in the desert.

    You can also find an appropriate non-hardening putty at RV supply houses here in the US.

    I might also have neoprene strips I could use.
