Attempting headliner install. '68 non sunroof. How important are the headliner clips?

Like the subject says, I'm getting started on a headliner install or attempting to start anyway...

I looked at PET and it says that 12 headliner clips should be used. When taking my old headliner off I found a total of zero of these. Are they necessary for some reason or will good 3m adhesive do the trick alone?

    Thanks in advance!

Adhesive alone will be good. Never had a problem not using them.

you can buy some small clamps at harbor freight... I have salvaged the factory clamps and used them as well. but several clamps and 3m glue will do the job. a little use of a hair dryer (don't get it to hot and st
retch out the material) or even lightly use a steamer. it can be done without heat at all ,,,, but a little can be useful...
