Better together...early Porsche racers in US

To me collecting cars is about the story behind the specific car, which brings it alive. As I mention, I’m most partial to 356’s (and 550/RS) as they established Porsche on the racing scene which the 911 continued but after a lag when it wasn’t taken seriously by the racing community. And early California racing period is so important. Drivers like Ken Miles, Phil Hill, Shelby, etc were just getting their start prior to international fame.

I’ve been fortunate to find a few of these early Porsche’s that raced then and hope to display them together.

    that was nice to read.
do you know about the "race thru the forest"? A movie about the races in Monterey county.
i have not seen it...but heard about it when it was filming.
I have a friend, who is still alive...that was a part of those races...and has a Jag that raced there. He is one of the guys in the movie.
He has the most interesting stories.

I loved that movie. The course wasn’t in Monterrey but on roads around the Pebble Beach club house. It was a private development and they believed this would draw attention to the area, etc.

In fact, one of the 356 Carreras shown in it I have. It raced the last race at the old Pebble Beach race in 1956 on public roads before a fatality (Ferrari hit a tree) closed the course and they built Laguna Seca.

Wasn't this race held on 17 Mile Drive? Hitting a tree on this course would be easy to do.

Yes. On some of the roads that make 17 mile drive but other ones there too. Pine trees were very very close.
