Nice vids Steve, takes me back to being a kid watching the RAC start/finish in Chester in late 70's early 80's, night stages in the welsh forests! Passed my driving test in 1979 and remember sneaking into the forest in my dad's RS2000 to handbrake turn round the logging tracks and emulate my heroes, the flying finns - Vatenen, Mikkola .....as nick says, happy days.....

    Cheers nick

...so Mr D, you had a Ford that didn't break ?

Went to 1980 start in Bath saw the stars but the special stages of my childhood were better as more action

A previous owner of my 911 was driver in the 73 RAC Rally in an RS 1600 Escort. Got the programme somewhere
Got various things this is just a few to hand:

Got 73 participant's badge somewhere. He completed the arduous event and was second in his class I've heard

In touch with him/family; still prepares Escorts for historic rallying Sent me old photos of the 911 whilst in his ownership. Road car not rallying.

    Make do and mend approach...

Not just rallying in England but more footage from 70s rallying in various locations. However, British made film and commentary so probably fits in this thread as the footage / images resonate with me as an English kid growing up watching rallies locally and following 70s rallying as a youngster / into teens.

The "make do and mend" approach is particularly evident at the 34 minute marker.

A future President of the FIA and Scuderia Ferrari principal/ CEO, Peugeot rally team boss mud plugging aound 39 mins marker

I’m so jealous of you guys that got to experience this type of racing back then. For me in the ‘70s growing up in East Central Illinois, we had dirt ovals at the Fairgrounds and Indy. That was it, sigh,,,,

I have taken in some F1 events over seas when work and pleasure could coincide.

I have a soft spot for rallying of this era because that’s what I first watched as a kid, quite atmospheric …

Some more footage here of Manx International in 1975
