    1968 911L Sportomatic

I am a new member of the Registry and I am going to tackle a bunch of projects on my 911L. The car was my dad's for thirty years before I got it and prior to that it was owned by one other person in Los Angeles. I have some of the maintenance records from the original owner and, to be frank, my dad didn't do much aside from keeping it running and painting it a different color.

I have little experience restoring cars but have wanted to do so for some time and decided this was the year I would start. I have found a set of work shop manuals on ebay that are due to arrive next week.

I should also say I have had three larger "needs" addressed at a good local repair including rebuilding the Sportomatic transmission and replacing most of the suspension. Both make the car much more enjoyable to drive and have led me to want to drive it more often and take on smaller projects.

I will post questions, pictures, and progress of the work in this thread. Most of the projects I have in mind are smaller deferred maintenance that will help me get acquainted with the car and build my confidence and skills.

    David

    What was the original color?
And do you think you might take it back to that color?

    Current long term ownership: 63 Cab, 71 911, 74 914

I noticed this car posted on the Bird....and suggested Dave join this group.
This is a special car given the unique combinations from L to paint to sporto etc.
I believe he has been shopping for correct parts and shop manuals ....

The 911s Registry has an awesome depth of technical knowledge and folks. If you decide you want to have your Sportomatic rebuilt, then "Jon B" on the forum is one of the technical wizards and rebuilds the 911 transmissions. He is based in SoCal.

I should also say I have had three larger "needs" addressed at a good local repair including rebuilding the Sportomatic transmission and replacing most of the suspension.

Thanks Dennis, but I think he's already had his transmission rebuilt.
David, I assume you're aware of Carquip in Boulder, an excellent local source for older Porsches.

Scott, The original color is/was 62165, Golden Green. If/when I get it repainted I don't think I could get it painted anything but that color! Not going to happen right away but one day I want to do that along with other projects that would make sense at the same time (rust for one). I have a grainy pic of my dad in the car before he repainted it and will dig it out to post.
