    Wiper motors - '70 vs. '72

Can someone tell me how to identify the one-year-only '70 wiper motor, compared to one that is correct for a '72?

Not sure it is any help but this is listed for sale as a '72.

I have a NOS ‘70 wiper motor on the shelf. I will take some pics and post them here.

From a block away, you can tell a 70 from a 72. The 72 is painted black and the 70 is just bare metal.

Why was the '70 wiper motor one-year only?

Furthermore, I think the '70 wiper switch was also one-year only. I'd like to know why.

Porsche experimented with intermittent wipers for 1970. Wipers had intermittent, slow and fast as the 3 switch positions rather than slow, middle and fast. The system was apparently a bit problematic and so they went back to normal 3 speed wipers in '71. The later intermittent wiper option was a totally different systemm.

OK thanks. I have a '70 car (awaiting restoration). I think I'll change its wiper system to normal 3-speed.

Thanks, everyone. Looks like the spare wiper motor and linkage rack I have is actually from a '70, and therefore not all that useful for me.

Converting may be best for reliability, but in addition to the switch and motor you will need a wiring harness (or some custom rewire work). I do drive in the rain, and so intermittent wipers would be nice, but I'm not too keen on what it would take to make it work, even though I already have the '70 motor.
