    Broken valve spring??

My 2.7 RS clone engine broke a valve spring last week on a nice Sunday drive. I heard a noise (clack-clack clack) and stopped within a few seconds. The engine was rebuilt circa 1992 with the works--basically new everything on a 7R case. Pulled 215 hp at rear wheels on the dyno when built. Probably has 50 or so DE track days and lots of reg driving with no real issues until now. Comp good and oil use also OK. Was figuring to do a rebuild in a few years but not now/ Currently no track days and just a Sunday driver.
What's a good plan assuming no damage to the cyl or piston. Scope did not show anything bad so far. If there is internal damage can I replace just the one piston/cyl? Std Mahle 2.7 RS.\ units. Thanks

Since you scoped internals and no noticeable damage I would replace the spring and see. Remember there are 2 springs on each valve and the inner spring will close the valve if the engine is not revved. Spring replacement with the engine in the car is easy with proper tool. Rob
