‘67 911R: why did R3 have aluminum body panels not gfrb like the others?

I was reading the definitive 911r book and out of all the 911r’s only r3 (the one that Elford drove to the victory at the 1968 Marathon de la Route with the sportamatic) has an aluminum paneled body not fiberglass.

    Any idea why?

It's a little too late Jόrgen Wenzelburger the former head of Design at Baur passed away a couple of years ago.
Although when researching stuff for the Baur Chronik he didn't recall everything but still he remebered some stuff that Jens thorner at the Archive wasn't aware of that they made for Porsche.
If it wasn't Porsches wish but came from an initiative of Baur he would have known.

I think I solved the mystery.

To enter the Marathon de la a Route race, the car needed metal panels to qualify in that group.
Hence R3 was made with aluminum.
