Chris had a PhD in Metallurgy from a respected British University. Posts like this (one of many such examples) often drew upon that knowledge of engineering and material science to illustrate his viewpoint and inform, which is what made them professional and interesting to read.

It was this forum's loss when he felt he didn't want to contribute his knowledge here any longer.

Condolences to his aged mother for whom he was a carer and her sisters who survive him.
    RIP Chris.

As a fellow metallurgist, I always enjoyed the underlying engineering aspects of his posts. I was always able to extract value from them, even if they were over my head at times.

Our family has had their own struggles with mental health issues over the years, so I can only imagine the level of grief they are experiencing, and the inevitable questions of "what could we have done?". The terrible truth being that mental illness is a disease like any other - sometimes the disease overcomes the patient. It is terribly sad for our community, but pales in comparison to the sadness of his family and close friends.

So sad to hear, Chris reminded me of my father who was also an engineer. Too much engineering at times, lol. Sometimes the theory and engineering got in the way of practicality on certain applications so we argued a few times. That being said he helped me out on occasions like rebuilding Nadela axles and he was super knowledgeable. We are at a loss without him.

I would like to bring up a point on mental illness. Nobody cares about men, our feelings, or what we go through. In this world of hyper sensitivity towards women, minorities, millennials and their hurt feelings society still tells men to suck it up and be strong. I lost my father a few years ago and never realized how much he supported me until he was gone. I went through all kinds of crap with my business and was in a bad state for a while, I asked for help and NO ONE LISTENED. I’ve never been suicidal so that was not an issue but I can see where you can go down a path where it seems there is no way out. Firefighters, Police officers, soldiers, mechanics, construction workers and many other men go through all kinds of shit in life and there is little help to get their minds back on a positive direction. If a friend of yours voices dark thoughts then pay close attention to them and take some time to see that they are alright. There is no good reason a skilled educated man would take their own life. RIP Chris my friend.

I am very sorry to read this. I have always enjoyed reading Chris's posts, the technical detail always drew me in and let me walk away with a bit more understanding.

    RIP

RIP Chris .. Your insight and craft will be missed - I've fitted a number of his sunroof deletes to my Track builds and they were always beautifully made
