    Parts List for 930 Tensioner Upgrade on ‘71T?

    Hi All:

    My ‘71T is coming along and it’s now time to address the original tensioners. Hoping the community here can point me in the right direction as I search for, and acquire, the necessary parts. Apologies in advance if there is a clear, ready-made kit—I could not locate such a kit despite my best efforts.

    Full Disclosure: I have done all the research regarding Carrera (pressure fed) vs. 930 (mechanical) tensioners. I’ve landed on the 930 tensioners due to the resulting “stock” appearance. Feel free to add your $0.02 regarding the Carrera kit, but I’m partial to keeping the car looking correct and have not seen a definitive failure rate comparison (actual or perceived) between the two upgrades. What I have seen is the general view that the original tensioners are a risk not worth taking.

    With that said, I am hoping that someone can share a “parts list” of all the different pieces that I will need to complete the upgrade. I understand (and plan) to go with the collars/guards and the upgraded idler arms. Lastly, although not necessary (and at the risk of asking too much), parts numbers would be greatly appreciated.

    Besides the 930 tensioner, I feel the updated Sprocket carrier might do more for reliability than the tensioner. the new carrier has a wider bushing that has less cantilevered leverage on it and it is bronze instead of just bored steal.

    Just to clarify,,,930 tensioners are hydraulic, they have a captive oil supply. With the updated idler arms they work fine.

    I would add besides tensioners, idler arms and idler sprockets with bushings, plastic chain ramps.

    Is it possible to get the original sprocket arms bored and bronze bushes fitted instead of replaced, and who does it if it can be done?
    Current fleet, mostly rubbish automobiles and other assorted junk.

    That really will not help nearly as much as getting the later style with better geometry

    Fritz, that is what Henry does, does a bronze bushing that extends the pivot.

    Ed, Nice to know.
    There are more options and new parts available and machine work today than there was years ago. We have less used parts to work with now but I am amazed at what is being done today for our cars.
