I saw your Nadellas during the process Brad. Chris thrived on engineering challenges like these. Sadly unable to help us anymore.

I'm sure Chris had found the same dimension Spider for the outer end was from a Mercedes prop shaft. Anyone with Mercedes knowledge base on here?

You need grease zerk fittings, so you can lube them. Back in the day, we used Ford U-joints on the outside. I had the inner assemblies fail, too.

    Hello Nadella boys!

I'm gonna shoot a bullet in my own feet: I THINK that I've found a u-joint which will jut fit this application.
I have a doubt it's available in the US though..

I'll check with Joris, and see if he can compare with his disassembled part.

    Oliver, others:

Is there a source for the Nadella wavey (star) washers -- or does anyone have them to spare? Looking for 8.

    Thanks

Just following up on this, I will be visiting a place soon that does laser spray welding to see if they can build up the bearing surface of original u-joints. If not an alternative but very $$$ option would be to sleeve them with SKF speedi sleeve golds. However this will be around $300 for the sleeves alone

Good point as many of these axles have been bored out to accept spicer u-joints.

Quick update, imam preparing all my worn journals right now on the lathe in preparation for the laser spray welding. Will report back when they are done. We tested the journals for hardness and all of them were a lot softer than expected. The material they will use is harder which I think will be a good thing

Picked them up today. Pretty happy with how they came out. The material used comes in ~40-43 hrc which is a step up from the original hardness. As you can see, the laser keeps the heat build up to a minimum.

Next step is now to play with a test bar they did for me to get my speeds and feeds dialed. Plan is to turn these between centers and either finish with some emory cloth or by lapping. Grinding would have been nicer but sadly I do not have a cylindrical grinder in the shop.

I machined all pieces this weekend. Next will be paint and assembly, then balancing. Still need to find a source for the V seals. If anybody has one please let me know.

While you're at it, put some grease fittings in all of them, so they don't go dry and break. I have had Nadellas break at BOTH ends -- primarily at the U-joint, however.

As for the V seals, contact your local bearing house -- they can probably fix you up.
